Maybe Love's Just Not Enough

Beau Bristow

A button and loop, that just won't stay latched
Your antique dress, a blush and a laugh
A smile on your lips, your lips on my cheek
I take your hand, and we take our seats
The sun and the breeze, the bride and the groom
I whisper, "Could that be me and you?"
But there's no answer back
From this old photograph
Baby, we were in love
So tell me, what happened to us
Maybe, maybe love's just not enough
I journal my thoughts, before they escape
The words that we said, the memories we made
On the paper you'd know, from letters before
But before I can think, I'm writing one more
So with a pen in my hand, my heart on this page
I tear it in 3 and throw it away
Where it buries your half
Of an old photograph
What's the use if your shroud tells the truth...
Summertime, sitting on the dock
Saying long goodbyes, in the parking lot
Shells and stickers, frogs and crooked toes
All the little things, baby no one knows
The autumn night, lip to lip we met
You were standing there on your backdoor step
And I thought you were the one
I thought that, I thought that...
