I'll Remember April

Eric Hutchinson

I remember I was driving the first time the phone rang

I was on the turnpike, past the toll booth in the rain

A smile passed my lips as I picked up the phone

And I knew for the first time that I wouldn’t be alone

Hello, I sure did miss you, was all that I could say

Your voice is just the only thing that gets me through the day

That was back in spring and now in fall you’re hard to find

But every time I see you, I’ve got April on my mind

Now I know that you’ve been missing me

And you’re still the one who sets me free

And even though we’re far apart, we’re closer than ever somehow

But I’ll remember April, for now

The phone calls all have ended, and the conversation’s passed

I knew that only what I felt inside could ever last

And I see it in your eyes, but there’s no need for the fear

When we’re finally together, I’ll kiss away your tears

Now five months have passed, since I was free to speak your name

And it will be nine more before I’m allowed to feel again

But I will be here waiting, upon my heart’s return

For the one who took it from me and kept it close to her

Now I know that you’ve been missing me

And you’re still the one who sets me free

And even though were far apart, we’re closer than ever somehow

But I’ll remember April, for now
