Guardian of the Realm II - The Insatiable Dream

Fireaxe

The years, the battles, so many victories.
I can no longer count them, but never a defeat.
The kingdom is thriving, so much prosperity.
More land, more riches, more wonders for all to see.
The wine, the wenches, my life is wild and free.
The king says I’m his favorite and sees to all my needs.
The thrill of victory has faded but still is strong.
The king calls, I answer, and we right all the wrongs.
More years, more battles, but now I question the cause.
What once was righteousness is now just greed and lust.
The victims we trample are poor and wretched men.
They have no hope against us, but they fight cause they have nothing left.
And even within the kingdom we fight amongst ourselves.
To build up greater riches we take from somebody else.
And now with all in turmoil my eyes are opened wide.
I cannot bear the pain I’m feeling deep inside.

My king is a tyrant! My cause is a lie!
Everything that I have fought for burns before my eyes.
My god, I have failed you. I’ve lived a wasted life.
What a fool I have been believing I could fly.

All these sins I’ve committed. All this blood on my hands.
Yet still I must fight. I cannot change what I am.
The arena, the glory, that is a champion’s call.
Victory, though now sour, is what I ache to feel.
And I am the lusts of the people. I am their fighting machine.
I kill, they roar, and I rejoice in the cheers and the screams.
But enough is never enough. We chase an insatiable dream.
The crowd, the king, devour the world through me.
Oh god in heaven, what have we become?
