The Kid Could Play

Seventh-day Adventist Hymnal

Slippin' round town it was late on a Saturday night
Music blastin' down the alleyway out into the neon sky
Well, the Kid was rockin' with that gold top in his hands
Got the place goin' crazy
Moving to the music of the band

Oh, such promise lay in waiting
All his life anticipating

Playin' music was his one desire
All he wants to do is set the night on fire
Livin' that dream out every day
Everybody knew that the kid could play

Everybody knew the magic goin' on down there
Lining up every night
Pay the price to get their share
Word spreadin' round town
Like wildfire out of control
Had the kid playing music
Coming from the bottom of his soul

Oh, but promises were broken
And goodbyes were left unspoken

Playin' music was his one desire
All he wants to do is set the night on fire
Livin' that dream out every day
Everybody knew that the kid could play
The kid could play

In the center of the bright spot light
Playing his heart out every night
Living that dream out every day
Everybody knew that the kid could play
Oh, the kid could play

A loss of innocence that drove him to the fringe
A final act of desperation in the end
And I can still hear music borne upon the wind

Playin' music was his one desire
All he wants to do is set the night on fire
Livin' that dream out every day
Everybody knew that the kid could play
The kid could play

In the center of the bright spot light
Playing his heart out every night
Living his dream out in every way
Everybody knew that the kid could play
The kid could play
Oh, the kid could play
