The Daylight

Michael Runion

I gave you rome, but you gave it back
You said you didn't like the weather
You laughed outloud, as we made wedding plans
But in, I knew that you meant every word
When I broke your nose, boy, you still looked good
It was hard enough sleeping with the door closed
I'm older now, but I'm no better than I was
When you still let me hold you....
I will not touch you in the dark
If I cannot love you in the daylight
I refuse to keep mine hid
You gave me rome, but I gave it back
We both knew I couldn't stay there
I laughed aloud as we made wedding plans
Inside I hoped that you meant every word
When you broke my nose, I must have looked a fool
It was bad enough, sleeping with my back turned
I'm older now, but I'm no better than I was
When you still let me hold you...
I will not touch you in the dark
If I cannot love you in the daylight
I refuse to keep mine
